James Martin Casey, 79, a longtime resident of McKinney and formerly of Victoria, Texas, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Jim graduated from Pawtucket High School in 1964 and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He earned his degree from the University of Houston in 1972 and worked with Walgreens, becoming a registered pharmacist and staying with the company until his retirement in 2014. During his distinguished career, he served as pharmacist-in-charge and took great pride in mentoring pharmacy interns as they prepared to enter the profession. He found fulfillment in helping, encouraging, and guiding others throughout his career.
Jim was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was known for his kindness, integrity, generosity, and sincere compassion. His wisdom and steady support touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jim’s Catholic faith was a central part of his life, guiding how he loved and served others. He was a dedicated member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in McKinney, where he served in various roles over the years. He was especially passionate about the grief support ministry, helping lead and walk alongside those experiencing loss. Through this ministry and countless quiet acts of kindness, Jim offered comfort, encouragement, and the reassurance of faith to those in need.
Active in his community, Jim served for many years as both a director and participant in the McKinney Community Concert Association. He enjoyed being involved, meeting new people, and sharing his time and talents with others.
Jim loved traveling, spending time with friends and neighbors, playing games, watching Jeopardy, and most of all, being with his family. He treasured gatherings filled with conversation, laughter, good food, and fellowship. His love for his family was unwavering, and he took great joy and pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow.
Jim’s life was a testament to faith, love, service, and compassion. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his family, church, profession, and community. He offered comfort to those who were hurting, friendship to anyone who sought it, and love to all fortunate enough to call him family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Katherine Pentico Lubke; his son, James Casey, Jr. and his wife, Jeanette; his daughter, Tanya Oeding and her husband, Jason; his stepson, Christopher Lubke and his wife, Leslie; and his stepdaughter, Tamara Lubke Atfield. His grandchildren also survive him: James Paul Casey and his wife, Sarah; Sara Casey; and Kaleigh Casey; along with his great-grandchildren Sutton, Margaret, and Rosalie Casey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and James Casey, and his wife of fifty-two years, Patricia Summers Casey.
Our family finds comfort in knowing that Jim is now at peace in God’s loving presence, reunited with those who went before him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Services are to be held on Monday, August 17, 2026 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 110 St. Gabriel Way, McKinney 75071. Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00 a.m.
The family asks that a donation be made to the Grief Support Ministry/Pastoral Care at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, McKinney, Texas, in lieu of flowers.
For family and friends who are unable to attend the funeral service in person, the service will be available to watch live online.
