James Thomas Lewis

Mr. James Thomas Lewis, born September 3, 1934, in St. Paul, TX, to J.T. and Helen Lewis. With his family by his side, James peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 25, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth. James graduated from Plano High School in 1952, and attended Texas A&M University. He married Joy Parr on August 21, 1954, and they had three children. For 25 years he was a dedicated employee of Capital Wire & Cable. James and Joy owned and operated Del’s Burgers in Richardson, TX, for 20 years. James served on the Plano City County Council in the 1960’s and was instrumental in bringing the YMCA to Plano. He served as a board member at Legacy Texas Bank since 1972, and was a member of the 11th Hour Sunday School class at the First United Methodist Church of Plano. James was passionate about everything in his life and was a fierce competitor, whether it was on the tennis court or golf course. He was actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James is survived by his loving wife, Joy; children, Dicky, Steve and Kim; daughters-in-law, Leigh Ann and Jenny Lewis; son-in-law, Bill Brummitt; grandchildren, Laura Brent and husband, Timmy, Drew and Rachel Brummitt, Dustin, Dawson, Sydney and Ella Lewis; and his great grandchildren, Logan and Jaxon Brent; brother, Billy Lewis and wife, Norma of Castle Rock, CO; sister, Glenda and husband, Al Ford of Florence, AL; brother, Gerald Lewis and wife, Sally, of Allen, TX; sister, Barbara and husband, Dan Curtis of Allen, TX; sister-in-law, Patsy Lewis of Princeton, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Plano. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Plano or the charity of your choice.
