James Leslie "Jim" Blakey

James Leslie "Jim" Blakey was born September 16, 1941 to James Edward Blakey and Daisy Zell Criger Blakey in Bonham, Texas. He married the love of his life, Ellen Louise Murphy on November 28, 1964 in Columbia City, Indiana. He passed away peacefully Friday, November 9, 2018 at the age of 77 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas surrounded by his loved ones.

Jim was a retired electrician with Valley Power Plant of Savoy. He served his nation in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the American Legion and Kentuckytown Baptist Church. He was a wonderful, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was admired by all who knew him. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Blakey of Whitewright; daughters, Sandy Farley and husband Steve of Sherman, and Christy Ruth and husband Tim of Howe; grandchildren, Nathan Farley and wife Whitney, Steven Farley Jr., Rachel Sylvaine and husband Randy, Megan Ruth and Ryan Robbins, and Ryan Ruth; great-granddaughter, Nova Sylvaine; sister, Linda Harvey and husband Roger of Savoy; brother, Frank Blakey and wife Martha of Whitewright. He was preceded in death by his parents, JE and Daisey Blakey.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 16 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Whitewright. Brother Larry Goodman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Steven Farley, Jr., Nathan Farley, Ryan Ruth, Donny Blakey, Paul Donoho, Scott Harvey, and Jeff Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Ross Cole and Phil Phillippo. The U.S. Air Force Honor Guard will provide graveside military honors at Sunnyside Cemetery in Savoy. A family visitation will be held 6-8PM, Thursday, November 15 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
