James “Jim” Leon Hailey, age 85, of Plano, Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was born January 29, 1937, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Delores (Dekalfetz) and Leonard Leon Hailey. Jim graduated from Harlingen High School in 1955 and served as Student Council President. He married the love of his life, Carol Jane Massey, in Harlingen, Texas, on June 9, 1957, and they were blessed with three children. Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing at The University of Texas class of 1959, and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. He proudly served his country in the Army ROTC – Lieutenant in the 504th M.P. at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Jim had a successful career in retail management with J.C. Penney Co. – 1959-1997. He was a Member Emeritus of the Salvation Army of North Texas Advisory Board – 1989-2021; Board of Directors for Roaring Lambs Ministry – 1998-2022; and member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano – 2008-2022. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Hailey; his son, James “Beau” Leon Hailey II; his grandchildren, Dave (Ruthie) Hailey, Sarah (Kyle) Padilla, Jessica Logan Hailey, and Julia Hailey; his great-grandsons, Kirk Padilla and Landon Padilla; his brother-in-law, Bill Massey; and his daughter-in-law, Laura Lee Hailey.
He is preceded in death by his son, David Massey Hailey, and his daughter, Joy Lynn Hailey.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Pkwy., Plano, Texas, officiated by Reverend Jimmy Decker.
