James (Jim) Harvey Riggs, a resident of Allen, Texas, peacefully passed away on July 17, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born on November 23, 1932, in Murray, Kentucky to Harvey Riggs and Alice (Gray) Riggs.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy. During part of his service, he was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas where he met the love of his life, Yvonne Mouser. They married on March 30, 1956, and together they built a life filled with love and cherished moments.
Jim was known for his sociable nature and never met a stranger. He had a passion for playing Bridge and enjoyed singing tenor with the Irving Chorale and the Silvertones. His love for travel took him to many corners of the world, enriching his life with diverse experiences.
In his own words he said, “I was born the third of four children to a gospel minister. The influence of God began at my mother’s knee and continued to this day.” Jim served the church by teaching bible classes and leading small groups. The influence that began early and lasted until his final days gave him confidence to face a cancer diagnosis, knowing to whom he belonged and that he would soon be going home to meet the Lord.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Grace Hougey, and one brother, Robert (Bob) Riggs.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Yvonne of Allen, Texas, two children Rita Christian of Farmers Branch, Texas and Howard Riggs and wife Judy of Van Alstyne, Texas, three grandchildren, Ryan Riggs and wife Piper of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lindsay Riggs of Henderson, Tennessee, and Kayla Christian of McKinney, Texas. Two great-grandchildren, Kinsler and Ellie Kate Riggs, one sister Norma Haynes of Memphis, Tennessee, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends during visitation on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
His celebration of life will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at McDermott Road Church of Christ, 3600 McDermott Road, Plano, Texas 75025.
In lieu of flowers, Jim’s favorite charities to support were St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Christ Haven for Children.
