James “Jim” Archer passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at his home in Parker, Texas surrounded by his family. Jim was born to Marjorie Henry (Chicago, Il) and Dwight L. Archer (Benton Harbor, MI) on May 17, 1935. Jim met the love of his life, June McCluskey, in the summer of 1959, they fell in love and married on September 2, 1961. They were blessed with three children. Jim is survived by his wife, June; children, Pamela Bourgeois-Wood and husband, Mark, Susan Baker and husband, John and James Archer and wife, Doris. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren, Jake, Ryann, Amanda, Nick Luke, Zack, Evann, Gage, Dylan and Taylor; and four great-grandchildren, Kye, Archer, Hazel and Liam.
Jim graduated from Lewisville High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army and attended various colleges including Texas State, University of North Texas and Baptist Bible in Missouri. In 1964, Jim entered the dental industry after a recommendation from his best friend, Dan Broughton. Jim was a natural salesman and exceled. He never looked back. Through the years, he worked for two industry giants before beginning his own company in 1980. And through his guidance with his son by his side, Archer Dental became a nationally recognized and respected multi-faceted company.
One of Jim’s greatest desires was to own land and raise cattle which he accomplished with a farm in Mountain Springs, Texas and a ranch in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. In Mountain Springs he hand-built a beautiful log cabin which has served as the central gathering place for his large family and friends for Thanksgiving for almost 40 years. Jim was a farmer at heart, and this remains one of his biggest legacies to his family - a love of the land.
Special thanks to Amedicus Hospice and Pearl’s Tender Care for the angels sent to care for Jim so well in his final months. The memorial service for Jim will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 N. Greenville, Allen, Texas 75013 on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a Rosary at 10:15 a.m. Lunch to follow in the Parish Hall.
