IN LOVING MEMORY

James Elliott “Jim” Fraser

Jul 16 1935 - Jan 16 2026

James Elliott “Jim” Fraser passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, surrounded by loving caregivers and with his beloved cat, Mittens, at his side. He was 90 years old.

Born on July 16, 1935, in Oakland, California, Jim was the eldest child of Frances Euphrosyne Olsson Fraser and Peter Elliott Fraser. After graduating from Oakland High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. He later attended Tarleton Junior College on the GI Bill before transferring to Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering with honors in 1961 and was inducted into Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1966.

Jim worked as an engineer for NASA and later for Pratt & Whitney/United Technologies, contributing to jet and rocket engine programs. In the mid-1970s, he transferred to California to manage rocket fuel testing facilities south of San Jose.

In 1966, Jim married the love of his life, Eileen Sullivan. Together they raised three children—Denisen, Elisabeth, and Christopher—and built a life centered on family, faith, and perseverance.

Jim loved sailing the San Francisco Bay in his Swedish Folkboat, walking in the Bay to Breakers race well into his 70s, listening to rock ’n’ roll on Sunday mornings, and singing “Sweet Caroline” at full volume. He was known for his brilliant blue eyes, quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and deep devotion to his family.

He is survived by his children, Denisen, Elisabeth, and Christopher; his grandchildren, Emmet, Maxwell, Owen, Henry, Kyle, and Colton; his sister Kerstin Fraser Magary; and his beloved cat, Mittens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen.

A memorial service is being planned. Those wishing to receive details may contact the family.
