IN LOVING MEMORY

James Richard Cooper

Apr 25 1945 - Jul 01 2014

Jim Richard Cooper, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on July 1, 2014 at the age of 69. He was born on April 25, 1945 in Eureka, Kansas, to James A. Cooper and Naomi (Grossarth) Cooper. Jim proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. A devoted Catholic, he married his best friend, Patty Fierro, on October 25, 1980 in El Paso, Texas, where Jim lived for almost 50 years. He was a fervent sports fan, particularly of his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Jim approached life with unbridled passion. He instilled in his sons an appreciation of the outdoors and taught his daughters to two-step (while simultaneously showcasing his gun collection to their boyfriends). Jim always gave 100 percent, especially when it came to loving his wife Patty. Their 34-year marriage was a testament to limitless devotion and unconventional love. His infectious smile is among the things his loved ones will remember most fondly. It was the family’s guiding light.

Father, husband, friend, veteran, coach, comedian, life of the party and all-around hero, James Richard Cooper leaves behind an unrivaled fun-loving, family-first legacy of love.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Cooper; daughters, Taryn and Taylor Cooper of McKinney; sons, James Cooper Jr. and wife Jean and Jeffrey Cooper and wife Kelly, of San Antonio; mother Naomi Rayl; sisters, Gloria Michota and husband Ken of Virginia and Barbara Lopez and husband Damian of Kansas; grandchildren, Kara, James, Kaylynn, Krystin, Jeffrey and Caden; great-grandchildren, Sylas, Synci and Sawyer; mother-in-law, Magdalena Adauto Fierro; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Denise and Philip Cain, Debbie Fierro, Michael Fierro, Frank and Laura Fierro, Michelle and Bill Larsen and Stephen and Becky Fierro; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James A. Cooper and friend/ father-in-law, Frank Fierro, Jr.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 110 Saint Gabriel Way, McKinney, TX 75071.
