James Weldon Compton

Funeral Services for Mr. James Weldon Compton, 87 year old Allen resident, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday March 8, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Celeste. Brother Jim Sherwin and Ricky Henslee will officiate. Burial will be in the Celeste/Hogeye Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday March 7, 2014 at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard.

Mr. Compton was born August 16, 1926 in Celeste. His parents were Samuel Monroe and Jewel Comer Compton. He married Audrey Henslee Compton March 2, 1947 and they were married for 67 wonderful years. He was a devoted father and husband, a WWII Veteran, a member of the Baptist Church and a Contract Jeweler with Zales Jewelers for 40 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing at any opportunity and he loved spending time with his family and always felt blessed to have been the grandfather to Cameron and Ashleigh. He passed away Wednesday March 5, 2014 at the Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife: Audrey Compton of Allen; Son and Daughter-in-Law: Larry Scott and Tina Compton of Allen; Grandchildren: Cameron Taylor Compton and Ashleigh Camile Compton of Allen; his brother and sister-in-law: Buddy and Novella Compton of Greenville; his sisters: Theda Lacy of Celeste and Peggy McCarley of Blue Ridge; his sister and brother-in-law: Thelma and A.J. Edwards. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
