James Anthony “Tony” Griffin, age 64, of Van Alstyne, Texas, passed away on September 26, 2017. He was born January 11, 1953 in Hugo, Oklahoma, to James Ray and Iris (Carlisle) Griffin. On October 27, 2001, Tony married Carolyn Hill in Rockwall, Texas. He grew up in Idabel, Oklahoma as well as, Texarkana, Texas, where he graduated from Texarkana High School in 1971. Tony received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Animal Science from East Texas State University. He taught Agriculture at several high schools in Kansas and Texas. Tony began working at Sungro Horticulture in 1979, where he worked for over thirty years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, woodworking and ranching. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Griffin of Van Alstyne, Texas; daughters, Ginger Kennemer and husband Jonathan of Prosper, Texas, Ginny Hampton and husband Michael of Sherman, Texas; sons, J.V. Lattimore and wife Sarah of Dallas, Texas, Mark Logan Lattimore and wife Amanda of Colleyville, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Kennemer, Pamela Hampton, Allison Brewer, Taylor Lattimore, Jack Lattimore, Leisin Fowler and Kasel Fowler; sister, Winonia Roberts and husband Dave of Texarkana, Texas; a host of other loving family and friends.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, James Ray and Iris Griffin.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway N., Allen, Texas 75013. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation being held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday evening, September 30, 2017 at the funeral home.
