Jackie Hines

Virginia Jacqueline Ourso Hines, age 91, was born in Napoleonville, Louisiana on June 19, 1928 and passed away on March 12, 2020 in McKinney, Texas. She was the only daughter of Manuel Ourso and Eva Oufnac Ourso. She lived in Napoleonville until age 15 and attended elementary school and high school until her junior year in Napoleonville. Her family moved to New Orleans where she graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School in July 1945. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in January 1949 where she earned her RN.

She met Dr. Larry Hines while he was attending LSU School of Medicine. They were married on April 23, 1949 and moved to San Diego, California where he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital. After 22 years of being a Navy wife of Dr. Hines, he retired to his home in McKinney, Texas and practiced general surgery for 30 years. While in practice Jackie managed his office.

During Jackie’s lifetime she served her church in many capacities, always available when and where she was needed. She served as President of St. Michael’s in McKinney, Texas in 1968 as well as the Rosary Society. Jackie also served as President and Vice President at large to the North Texas Deanery Council of Catholic Women. She served as President of the Dallas Dioceses Council of Catholic Women and as Committee Chairman of the Dallas Dioceses. Jackie served as a leader for the Camp Fire Girls group of which Anne and Amy were active. She served as Amy’s group leader for six years. Jackie has also been an active member of the Owl Club since 1968. She served as President of City Federation of 1970 Women’s Club of McKinney and Friends of the Library.  Since the Hines’s have five sons who are Eagle Scouts and Dr. Hines a Silver Beaver and leader, she was a loving supporter of all their activities.

Jackie is survived by her 8 children, Mary Katherine of McKinney, Stephen Thomas and wife, Lisa of Denton, Paul Michael of Sulphur Springs, Jeffrey Allen of Carrollton, Gregory Manuel and wife, Caryl of Denton, Timothy Matthew and wife, Candace of Hallettsville, Anne Margaret Delaney and husband, David of McKinney, Amy Lynne Braddock and husband Allen of Sherman; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry; parents, Manuel and Eva Ourso; 2 brothers, Roy and Corbet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2020 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 North Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002 with a private interment to follow. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Jude’s.
