Jack Geren, Sr. of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on December 17, 2021 at the age of 91. Jack was born in Dallas County on August 13, 1930 to Rossea Jackson and Arthur Geren. Jack was the last surviving sibling of 7 and spent his early childhood in Sachse and Garland, Texas before settling at the family farm in McKinney in 1943.
Jack was a lifelong farmer since childhood, loved his family, friends, the Lord, and his cows, which he tended until the age of 89. A role model for us all, Jack was always there to lend a hand to a friend, neighbor, or absolute stranger. It was not uncommon for the phone or doorbell to ring late at night by someone needing his help, and he never turned them down or asked for anything in return. He will be immensely missed and never-ever forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Geren of McKinney, Texas; sons, Jack and his wife Sandra, and grandson Trey of Rockwall, Texas; John and his wife Jonell, and grandchildren Andy, Mary Beth, and Simon of Anna, Texas; Noel and his wife Jodina, and grandchildren Preston, Audrey, and Adaline of Frisco, Texas; plus countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As a fitting tribute to a man who spent his life tending the crops and animals at his farm, it only seemed natural for Jack’s family to enjoy the billowing symphony of the neighborhood cows who quietly, but diligently, amassed at the southern fence and offered one final, mooing serenade to Jack Geren as he was ushered away from Geren Trail for the last time.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on December 28, 2021 at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, 5944 Franklin Branch Road, McKinney, Texas 75071. A graveside service will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
