Jack Q. Croom

Jack Quanah Croom, born in Keota, Oklahoma to Curtis and Rosa Croom on 5 November 1929.  He grew up in Keota attending the local schools and working as a Soda Jerk in his father’s pharmacy.  After his father’s untimely death, he moved with his mother and two brothers, Joe and Jerry to Harlingen, Texas where he graduated from Harlingen High School.  He later attended Southwest State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma where he pursued his love of flying.  While attending college he worked at the downtown airpark in Oklahoma City.  He served in the Oklahoma National Guard’s 45th Infantry Division and proudly wore his 45th Division ball cap wherever he went. He went to work for the Navy at North Island in San Diego Bay, Then, worked for the Air Force at Norton AFB, CA; Tinker AFB, OK; and Hill AFB, UT where he subsequently retired in 1970.  He served as a manager and coach in Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football leagues for teams on which his sons played.  He was a life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks in St. George, Utah.  He was the husband of the late Doris I. Croom (nee Monson).  They enjoyed traveling and attending square dances throughout his lifetime attending many National Square-Dancing Conventions.  He is survived by his brother Joe of Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, Jack W. Croom (Donna) of Lompoc, CA and Curtis E. Croom (Debbie) of McKinney, TX; stepson, Thomas P. Monson of Lodi, CA.  In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren, Kayce Seamster of Manteo, NC: Justin Croom of Lompoc, CA; Tamatha Sponaugle of Ijamsville, MD and Pamela Richardson of Lodi, CA and several great grandchildren.  Interment will be in the family plot in the Keota City Cemetery, Keota, OK.
