Jack L. Mills

Jack L. Mills passed away on February 26, 2023, in McKinney, Texas at the age of 87. He was born on September 18, 1935, in Celina, Texas to John Preston Mills and Evelyn (Tillerson) Mills. Jack met his wife while playing basketball in college and they got married 6 months later on October 5, 1957, they were married 65 years.

He was a star basketball player at Weatherford College and graduated in 1957. Jack served in the Army for 3 years in Spokane, Washington at Fairchild Airforce Base. He played basketball and was in the Army Honor Guard. He went back to UT Arlington and graduated as an Engineer in 1968. In 1968 they bought a house in Garland, Texas and a year later had their only child Kelly Lyn Mills Dougherty. 

Jack moved to Iowa for an Engineering job with Rockwell Collins for 6 years and then back to Texas where he was an electronic salesman who enjoyed traveling, golfing, family and friends. He retired to Holly Lake Ranch Texas (east Texas) where he became an avid golfer and played every day where he made multiple holes in one. He was good at everything he did, great at math, basketball, tennis, golf, photography, dancing to country music and polka dancing. Loved all kinds of music. Jack had the gift of gabbing like no other and loved telling dad jokes and making people laugh. Jack was an outgoing friendly person. He could not go anywhere without knowing someone. He was the patriarch of the family and father figure to many. His 5 siblings looked up to him and his parents were proud of his accomplishments. He was an honest, hardworking, and wonderful father.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Mills of Weatherford, Texas; daughter Kelly Mills-Dougherty and Son-in-law Patrick Dougherty; sister, Loretta Mills-Robertson and son, George Walter (Corky) Halford; sister, Linda Mills-Long and daughter, Stacy Mattei; brother, Larry Mills and children, Shelly Mills-Merritt and Brad Mills; nephews, Mike, Trey, and Jerry Wayne Mills and nieces, Sherry Jones-Marks and husband Andy Marks, and Karen Mills-Ghent.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Mills and John Preston (JP) Mills;  brothers, Jake Mills and Jerry Mills and niece Terry Mills-Carpenter.
