On September 28, 2022, Jack Bowen, beloved father, grandfather, and veteran passed away at the age of 89. Jack joined his greatly missed wife, Alice Bowen in heaven.
Jack was born on May 5, 1933 in Whitewright, Texas to Thomas Benton Bowen and Emma Catherine (Mayes) Bowen. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Alice on February 14th, 1953. They were married for 68 years, and after a year of life without Alice, they are now reunited. Jack and Alice raised a son, Ron Bowen, and a daughter, Lisa Bowen Butler.
Jack served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was in the printing business for over 65 years and retired in 2019. He was a devout Christian and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Van Alstyne, Texas. Jack served as an outstanding example of strong faith for all of his family. He loved to hunt with his son Ron and his grandson “bubba.” Jack, or papa as many knew him, was a friend to every person he met. People described him as a strong man full of integrity, and a good sense of humor.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Bowen; brother, Willard Bowe; sisters Robbie Nargang and Billy Joe Edwards; mother, Emma Bowen and father, Thomas Bowen.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Diane Bowen; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and David Butler; grandchildren, Marja Mills and husband, Kevin, Ashley Ventris and husband, Chris, Jackson Butler and Grace Butler, as well as many great grandchildren and Frank the pug.
His loving spirit will forever leave a hole and an imprint on his loved ones hearts. He will always be an example to the lucky people who knew him of how to be a godly, caring, kind, and strong man. Most importantly, he leaves a legacy that will forever live on; how to be a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
