Deacon Isiah Calhoun, Sr.

Deacon Isiah Calhoun Sr was born to the parents of the Late John Calhoun and the Late Margie Hines on beautiful Lake St. John in Ferriday, Louisiana.  Isiah attended Sevier High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Parker Birdon Calhoun.  He accepted Christ at a very young age. He was a faithful servant of the Lord, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He was the first African American Manager of Tracks for Union Pacific Railroad for over 25 years.  During his tenure, he hired many other African American men and gave them the opportunity to become successful railroad men.

Isiah became an Ordained Deacon under the leadership of the Late Rev. Stephen Brady at Second Bethlehem Baptist Church in Alexandria, Louisiana, and he was a member of the Men’s Chorus.  He served active in both ministries until his illness. 

He was the oldest child and the pillar of his family, which includes 5 sisters:  Matilda Smith, Gloria Loiseau, Patricia Lewis, Margie Hines and Irma Exnicious. Irma preceded him in death.  7 brothers: Edward Hines, Don Hines, LC Hines, Henry Calhoun, Jarnell Hines, Vernon Calhoun and Lionel Woodruff, Lionel preceded him in death.  

He and his wife Parker were parents to Parker’s younger siblings, Bessie Chrison, Willie Birdon and Bobby Owens after the death of Parker’s mother.  He was a father figure to a host of nieces and nephews.

Isiah  leaves to execute his legacy a Phenomenal Woman, Wife of 57 years, Parker Birdon Calhoun; 3 children, Shellram Calhoun of Little Elm, Texas, Isiah Calhoun, Jr. of  Alexandria, Louisiana, Kevin Calhoun (Torey) of Grand Prairie,  Texas; 2 granddaughters, Tiara Calhoun Smith(Shaun) of Frisco, Texas and Omegan Boyce of Dallas Texas; 2 great granddaughters, Taj Calhoun Smith and Skylar Smith of Frisco, Texas. 

In support of our local, state, and federal govt including CDC directives and to protect the physical health, safety and well-being of our community, only a limited number of invited guests will be allowed to attend the Memorial Service.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033.
