Isabel Armijo Avila of Garland, Texas passed away January 23, 2016 at the age of 83. She was born July 8, 1932 to Ignacio Armijo and Julia (Coranado) Armijo in Edinburg, Texas. Isabel married Luis V. Avila. She worked for Luby’s Cafeteria for over thirty years. Isabel was both a father and mother figure to her children. She worked very hard every day to allow her children the opportunity to get ahead in life. Isabel loved crocheting, music and dancing Cumbia’s. Riding in the front seat was a must for her, she always called “shot gun”! She had many friends who cared for her. Isabel will be remembered as loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Rosa Furtado of Garland, Texas, Maria Garza and husband Ruben of Richardson, Texas, Jose Luis Avila and wife Joann of McKinney, Texas, Jose Ignacio Avila and wife, Luz Alma of Ennis, Texas, and Minerva Belmonte of Grand Prairie, Texas; twelve grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother, Francisco Armijo; and sisters, Guadalupe Gomez, Jovita Jimenez, and Mariquin Luevano.
Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Luis V. Avila; grandson, Felipe Vargas; brother, Ernesto Armijo; Lorenzo Armijo, Julio Armijo, and sisters, Theodora Ponce and Donicia Garza.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m.
