Ida “Ruth” (Smith) Paschal, a faithful servant of the Lord and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2019 at the age of 89. She was born February 23, 1930 in Cumby, Texas to Hassie Dee (Cox) and Quayle Damascus Smith. Ruth married Donald Eugene Paschal in Dallas, Texas on March 22, 1946.
Ruth adored her family and wanted nothing more in life than for them to be strong in their Christian faith and to have deep family roots. She poured into her family by sharing Bible stories with her children and grandchildren at bed time, modeling a great prayer life, and serving her family exceptionally well. She was the ultimate Proverbs 31 woman, demonstrating characteristics of virtue, faithfulness, reverence, honor, and kindness. As a great prayer warrior, she prayed daily for her family members by name, and if she ever told someone she’d pray for them, there was no doubt that they were covered in prayer. Ruth combined her love of the Lord and her love for children by teaching children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School throughout her life.
She loved catering to the needs of each individual at family events by preparing all of their favorites—sometimes making multiple versions of the same dish. She was especially known for her desserts, including her legendary coconut cream pie.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 73 years, Donald E. Paschal of Pottsboro, Texas; her sons, Don Paschal and wife, Janice of McKinney, Texas, Terry Paschal and wife, Sandi of Pottsboro, Texas, and Greg Paschal and wife, Nancy of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Lori Winters and husband, David of McKinney, Texas, Jeff Paschal and wife, Robin of Plano, Texas, Clay Paschal and fiancé, Hailey Seymour of McKinney, Texas, Dustin Paschal and wife, Lindsay of Frisco, Texas, Katie Buchanan and husband, Kyle of Keller, Texas, and Grace Paschal of New York, New York; great-grandchildren, Preston and Brayden Paschal; sisters, Dorothy Wilson, Wanda White, and Marilyn Davis; brother, James Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Q. D. and Hassie Smith, and her sister, Marie Shamburger.
