Larry passed away October 29, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born to Hugh Lee and Linda Elsie Adkins in Levelland, Texas. Larry attended public schools in Levelland and Aztec, New Mexico. He graduated from Levelland High School in 1965, South Plains College and Texas Tech in 1969. Larry taught in public schools in Austin, Texas where he met the love of his life, Suann. He worked in the oil business in Houston and Midland where they made many lifelong friends. He and Suann moved back to Houston where he was Executive Vice President and COO of Marine Drilling Company and President of four of its subsidiaries. Larry served on the Board of Directors for Norton Drilling Company of Lubbock, Texas and the Board of IADC (International Drilling Contractors). He was a Master Mason and member of the Hill City Lodge in Austin.
After retirement, he and Suann moved to the Hill Country where he joined Suann in her Real Estate Business. They spent many summers in Ruidoso, New Mexico and did extensive traveling. They followed their grandchildren to Frisco, Texas and to Wilmington, North Carolina where they stayed for three years before moving back to Frisco, Texas.
Larry was a member of the Racetrack Chapel in Ruidoso. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church in Midland and was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Frisco at the time of his death.
Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Suann Adkins of Frisco, Texas; daughter Jennifer Hopkins and husband, John of Fulshear, Texas; son, Taylor Adkins and wife, Stephanie of Prosper, Texas; four grandchildren, Ian Hopkins, Evan Hopkins, Sophie Adkins, and Avery Adkins; sister, Vicki McCarty and husband, Craig of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the VNA of Dallas or the local SPCA in memory of Larry.
