Hugh Edward McCarley

Hugh Edward McCarley of McKinney, Texas passed away June 1, 2019 at the age of 85.  He was born on January 24, 1934 to Era “Tip” McCarley and Annie Kathryn (Miller) McCarley in McKinney, Texas.  Hugh was a 1952 graduate of McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney.  He attended Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas for two years before joining the military.  He served his country proudly in the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict. Hugh returned to Texas A & M, graduating in 1959.  He married Carolyn Clark on April 22, 1966 in McKinney. Hugh spent his early career with P & M Furniture. Later, he joined the Collin County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer from which he retired in 2011.   Hugh was an active member in his community serving as a McKinney City Council member from 1965 – 1969 and on the board of 1st State Bank in McKinney.  He was a long time member of the McKinney Jaycee’s and held the position of president in 1966. Hugh was a devoted member of First Christian Church of McKinney where he was an Elder and served on the board. He was an avid stamp and coin collector.  Hugh was a farmer at heart and he loved to spend his Sunday afternoons on the farm.

Hugh is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carolyn McCarley of McKinney, Texas; son, Michael H. McCarley and wife, Holly; grandson, Ryan Michael McCarley; granddaughter, Rebecca Ann McCarley, all of McKinney, Texas; sister, Peggy Polk of McKinney, Texas; brother, James McCarley and wife, Jane of McKinney, Texas; sister, Annie McCarley of McKinney, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert McCarley.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Monday to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Hugh’s honor to First Christian Church of McKinney, Austin York Scholarship Fund.
