Hubert H. Powell, age 99, of Allen, Texas peacefully passed away in his home on January 2, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born to parents, Gilford and Susie Powell, on August 4, 1919, in Hot Springs Arkansas. On December 30, 1939, he married the love of his life, Rubie V. Powell. Hubert and Rubie were married 68 wonderful years. He served his country proudly in the United States Army as a Private. Hubert’s service included World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart award. Hubert was a farmer, rancher, carpenter, and horse trainer. He did all of these with pride, integrity, and passion. Hubert was a great husband, wonderful dad, loving grandfather, and a genuine friend to so many. He displayed great character of strength, courage, and love for his family and friends.
Hubert is survived by sons, Richard Powell and Ed Powell of Allen, Texas; daughter, Bonita Hancock, of Allen, Texas; son-in-law, Wayne Cruthis of Conroe, Texas; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren all whom loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rubie Powell; parents; daughters, Joyce Cruthis and Linda Parr; great-grandson, Lane McCloud; brother, Glen Powell;sister, Etna Housley; and son-in-law, Anthony Hancock.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Turrentine-Jackson- Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation Saturday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hubert’s life.
