Howell L. "Buddy" Cheatham

Howell Lane “Buddy” Cheatham of McKinney, Texas passed away on February 24, 2021 at the age of 81. He was born August 16, 1939 to Howell Lane and Norene (Newcomer) Cheatham in Delhi, Louisiana. Howell graduated from Oak Grove High School in Oak Grove, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana Tech University where he received his bachelor’s degree and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Howell married Linda Anthony on February 20, 1965 at Ida Baptist Church in Ida, Louisiana. He began his career in New Orleans, Louisiana with the Chrysler Corporation as part of NASA. Later, his career led him to work for Lockheed in Houston, Texas. Eventually he furthered his career with Raytheon in Garland, Texas where he spent 26 years as a software manager. He was a strong, yet gentle and loving man. Buddy was very selfless, and he loved his family and others unconditionally. In his spare time, he could be found golfing, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed watching westerns and football, and he loved to travel. To know Buddy, was to love him. God knows how to give good and perfect gifts to his children, and Buddy was just that, a good and perfect gift.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Linda Cheatham of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Sheryl and husband, Dr. Max Cogswell of Sherman, Texas and Susan and husband, Dr. David Etheredge of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren, Trey Cogswell of Dallas, Texas, Robert Cogswell of Dallas, Texas, Jennifer Cogswell of Sherman, Texas, Elizabeth and Lauren Etheredge both of Prosper, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Iris Jan Wilkinson and Marvel Kelly Corkran.

A “come and go” visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. Only a limited number of guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home facility at any one time to maintain social distancing

A graveside service for the family will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
