Herschel B. Wall, age 92, of Athens, Texas, passed away December 29, 2016. Herschel was born January 22, 1924, in Anna, Texas, to John Madison and Catherine Serelda (Richardson) Wall. He grew up in Blue Ridge, Texas, where he went to school and graduated from Blue Ridge High School in 1942. On March 1, 1943, Herschel enlisted in the United States Army. He served in World War II as a communications chief and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. During his military career he earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. On January 28, 1946, he was honorably discharged. Herschel married Nelmarie Kemp and she preceded him in death on August 2, 1974. He later married Barbara Gail Loper on February 9, 1987 in Rockwall, Texas. Herschel worked for LTV/Raytheon as an electronics engineer from 1956 until his retirement. He was a Ham Radio operator using the call letters W5NEP.
He is survived by his wife Gail Wall of Athens, Texas; son, Rodney Wall and wife, Ellen of Celina, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Wall and Rory Wall; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Wall Braswell of Blue Ridge, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, son, Michael Wall, brothers, Lester Wall, Melvin Wall, and Haskell Wall, sisters, Nadine Smith, Erma Lee Walker, Iva Abbott, Irene Williams, Lurla Burns, and Mattie Lou Clingerman.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. Interment with military honors will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.
