Herman Gallant Mullins

Herman Gallant Mullins, Jr. of Whitewright, Texas passed away December 28, 2022. He was born March 29, 1937, in Dallas, Texas, to Herman Gallant Mullins, Sr. and Montie Louise Wherry.

He attended elementary school in Lovejoy ISD until sixth grade, then transitioned to McKinney ISD. He was a member of the 1955 class of McKinney Boyd High School but graduated from Highland Park High School. After high school, he attended Arlington State College before he enlisted in the Navy, where he served eight years. While in the Navy, he married Glenda Woodruff and became a father with the birth of his daughter, Michelle. He served aboard the U.S.S. Wasp. After the Navy, he began a career in industrial sales. Upon retirement, he volunteered weekly at the VA Clinic in Bonham until the 2020 Covid pandemic.

Herman met his wife Bobbie at a social gathering. After a whirlwind courtship, Herman and Bobbie were married on September 12, 1964, in Dallas, Texas. They welcomed their first child in 1965 with the birth of their son, Wade, and four years later, another son, James. In 1974 they moved to McKinney, Texas, and their last son, Ryan, was born. Herman was always there to support his kids; he attended every football game and most practices for his sons Wade and James. He even officiated swim meets for son Ryan and continued officiating for almost twenty years. He served the City of McKinney as a member of the Board of Adjustment and the Parks and Recreation Board. He was active in Boy Scouts with all three sons and even served a stint as Scoutmaster for Troop 303. Herman was awarded the Masonic Service Lifetime Membership at Hillcrest Lodge 1318. He was a member of First Baptist of McKinney.

Herman and Bobbie became active members of FMCA (Family RVing) Association in 2007. During his time with FMCA, Herman achieved Southern South Central Vice President, Senior Vice President, South Central Area Vice President/President of Six State. They enjoyed many Rallies and Conventions by traveling in their motor home.

 Herman is survived by his wife, Roberta “Bobbie” Barger Mullins of Whitewright, Texas; daughter, Michelle Smith and husband, David, of Bedford, Texas; sons, Wade Mullins and wife, Wendy, of Frisco, Texas, James Mullins and wife, Audra, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Ryan Mullins and wife, Shelai, of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Katie, Ryan, Lily, Rees, Nic, Sawyer, Addy, Molly, and Paisley; great grandchildren, Hali, Anderson, and Maxwell; sister, Martha Woods, of McKinney, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. The grandchildren called Herman “Grumpy.”

Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Gallant Mullins, Sr., and Montie Louise Wherry Jones; stepfather, Rees Jones; brother, Gary Jones; grandson, Matthew Mullins; brother-in-law, Jackie Woods.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on January 25, 2023
