Herman “H.L.” Craighead, age 83, of McKinney, Texas, passed away September 29, 2012, in McKinney. Herman was born November 1, 1928, in Farmersville, Texas, to Willie Nuel and Mary Elizabeth (Wells) Craighead. He married Verjean Helen Miller on June 4, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. Herman was a Dallas Police Officer for twenty-four years. He was a 32 degree Mason. Herman proudly served in the United States Air Force for eight years during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Craighead of McKinney, Texas; son, Steven Lewis Craighead and wife Cindy of Lowry Crossing, Texas; daughter, Kathi Riddle and husband, John of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Riddle, Sean Riddle, and Alex Fowler and wife, Sheri; great-grandchildren, Fallon and Lilah; nephew, Willie Nance and wife, Carlene of New Braunfels, Texas; and niece, Elizabeth Bowers and husband, Bobby of Greenville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patsy Nance and brother-in-law, James Nance.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 4406 Broadway Blvd., Garland, Texas, 75043. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
