Henry Phillip Meyer, age 100, passed away September 27, 2024, in Plano, Texas. He was born on May 22, 1924, in Renault, Illinois, to his loving parents Henry Charles Meyer and Emma (Schlifer) Meyer.
At 16, Henry left Renault and began working at the Wood Heel Shoe Factory in St. Louis, Missouri. His enlistment into the United States Army on the 28th of April 1943, marked the beginning of his brave service during World War II as a field medic with the 29th Infantry under General George Patton. After two years and six months of service, he returned home, proudly continuing his career at the shoe factory.
On April 17, 1946, Henry married Norma Louise Lena Fischer in St. Louis, Missouri, and together they raised two sons, Ron and Terry, creating a life filled with joy and cherished memories. Later, Henry transitioned to Monsanto Chemical Company, where he dedicated many years as a chemical operator and later as a machinist before retiring in 1986. During his time at Monsanto and even after retirement, Henry also served as President of the Monsanto Credit Union, now First Community Credit Union. His life reflects the values of hard work, love, and service to his country.
Henry enjoyed baseball, especially when it came to cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed collecting coins. Playing rummy brought him countless hours of fun, but his greatest joy came from the company of his beloved family and friends. It was in those moments of togetherness that he truly found happiness and fulfillment, creating lasting memories that he cherished throughout his life.
Henry is survived by sons, Ron Meyer and wife, Colleen, of Columbia, Missouri, and Terry Meyer and wife, Paula, of Allen, Texas; five grandchildren, Eric and Mark Meyer, Cortney Baker, Katie Fry and David Kitchen; 17 great grandchildren; Connor & Jordan Meyer, Alex and Gabe Meyer, Landon, Gracie and Reagan Baker, Madelyn, Raegan and Cooper Fry, Issak Brazeal, Ava and Logan Kitchen, Danny, Robby, Tommy and Billy Burks and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, who will miss him dearly and forever cherish his memory.
Henry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma Meyer; parents, Henry and Emma Meyer; six brothers; Red, Otto, Ted, Elmer, Emil and Bill and two sisters; Esther and Hilda.
The family will receive guests during a visitation on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Those who can’t make the family visitation, can visit both before and after this time.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location. Interment will take place at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas following the service.
