Helen "Roberta" Brinkley

Helen “Roberta” Brinkley, age 88, of Allen, Texas, passed away August 28, 2012 in Allen. Roberta was born July 21, 1924 in Sedalia, Texas to Floyd Earl Barton and Ola (Perkins) Barton. She grew up and attended school in Van Alstyne, Texas, graduating from Van Alstyne High School in 1941. She married Jesse “Floyd” Brinkley on December 5, 1942 in Van Alstyne. During World War II she and her husband worked for North American Aviation Company. She was a devoted homemaker during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. In 1956, she took a temporary pre-Christmas job at Titche’s department store and service center in Dallas, Texas. This became a full time job and she retired about 25 years later.

Roberta was an avid traveler, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries. One of her favorite places was Branson, Missouri where she enjoyed the shows, took numerous celebrity photos and collected autographs. She also loved genealogy and her favorite television show was “All My Children”. She had a kind and gentle spirit and held a deeply personal and private relationship with God.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jean Brinkley of Allen, Texas; sister Ellen Barton Miller of Austin, Texas, sister-in-law Iris Brinkley of Dallas, Texas and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, her parents and her brother, Floyd E. Barton, Jr., preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2012 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army, Allen Community Outreach Center or Texas Baptist Men.
