Haley Harlow, Sr. of Melissa, Texas passed away November 9, 2016, at the age of 93. He was born June 29, 1923, in Weston, Texas to Jesse Avant and Clara (Van Hooser) Harlow. Haley served his country proudly in the United States Navy in Guam during WWII. He often said “he was sick twenty-three days going over to Guam and twenty-three days coming home”. Haley continued his service to his country working at the Veterans Hospital in McKinney for twenty years. He drove Collin County’s first road grader. Haley married Ruth Holland on June 20, 1943. in Van Alstyne, Texas. They shared sixty years of marriage. He was a retired convenience store owner and farmer.
Haley is survived by his sons, Haley Harlow, Jr. and wife Donna, Roger Harlow and wife Sheryl, Larry Harlow and wife Charlotte, and Bob Harlow and his friend Diana; sister, Jackie Harlow Burch of Bonham, Texas; brothers, Leonard Harlow and wife Judy of Anna, Texas and Billy Joe Harlow of McKinney, Texas (Billy Joe visited with Haley daily); grandsons, Les, Bert, Colby, Casey, Brett and Ben; sister-in-law, Edith of Prairie Village Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Holland Harlow; parents, Jesse and Clara Harlow; brothers, Arlis Harlow, L.B. Harlow, Dudley Harlow, Don Harlow, and Leon Harlow (Ob); and sister, Frances Harlow.
A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Melissa Cemetery in Melissa, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
