Guy Wesley McClain, 86, passed from this life on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at his home in Allen, Texas.
Guy was born on February 15, 1937 in Etoile, Texas to Valina Agatha McClain and Rev. Eurial Leon McClain. He was the third of six children, and he learned his work ethic as a young child, helping on the farm. As a young man he hauled pulp wood and watermelons, while also attending Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He married his wife of 64 years, Vonda Thompson McClain, on June 7, 1958, and they had three children – Rhonda, Kevin, and Lisa. Guy was a loving husband, father, and a faithful friend.
Guy started his career at 3M and then Lubrizol. After working at Lubrizol for 20 years, he took an early retirement to start his own construction company, which he ran for 15 years. Following that, his last job was at Rodman Excavation. Guy was highly regarded as a skilled dozer and tractor operator and was known as one of the very best in his field.
He was an avid fisherman, fishing guide, and the President of Lubrizol Bass Club, winning numerous first-place trophies in bass fishing tournaments along the way.
He was also a devoted Christian and he served in numerous ministries throughout the years, from guitar and bass fiddle player to usher, greeter, Sunday School bus route driver, choir trip bus driver, mechanic, and more.
Guy is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Stanwix and husband, Scott of Allen, Texas; son, Kevin McClain and wife, Leah of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Lisa Bailey of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon Stanwix and wife, Lori of Prosper, Texas; Ryan Stanwix and wife, Kelsi of Rowlett, Texas; Lindsey Rhoads and husband, Matt of McKinney, Texas; Hunter McClain and Landon McClain of McKinney, Texas; and Madeleine Bailey of College Station, Texas; great grandchildren, McKinley, Colton, Saiya, Isla, Levi, Ryker, Caden, and Riggs; and sister, Anita Shelton of Woden, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Vonda Lee McClain, his parents, Rev. Eurial McClain and Valina McClain; sister, Joyce Smith and brothers, Eugene McClain, Rev. Wayne McClain and Butch McClain.
The celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Oaks Church, 448 N. Custer Road, McKinney, Texas 75071. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Turrentine Jackson Morrow, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013 immediately following the service.
