Guillermo E. "Bill" Hernandez

Guillermo E. “Bill” Hernandez passed away on May 24, 2018 at the age of 74 in Plano, Texas. He was born in Havana, Cuba to Guillermo and Eldemira Hernandez on April 16, 1944. The family immigrated to the United States when he was 10 and Bill proudly earned his United States citizenship in 1963. He showed mechanical aptitude at a young age and attended the University of Florida where he graduated top in his aeronautical engineering class. Bill then married his high school sweetheart, Janice Scheiffley, and went on to work as an engineer on the Saturn V/Apollo moon project for NASA in the 1960s. He then followed his lifelong love of aviation and became a pilot for Eastern Airlines in 1970. During and after his career with Eastern, he was an auxiliary police officer, involved in real estate, insurance, and finally ran his own computer programming business. Throughout his life, Bill built and restored numerous World War II and aerobatic aircraft.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Hernandez of Plano, Texas; son, Michael Hernandez and wife, Elizabeth of Panama City, Florida; daughter, Michele Barrows and husband, Daniel of Wichita, Kansas; and grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Guillermo Hernandez, and mother, Eldemira, of Hialeah, Florida.

Bill will be honored at a graveside service at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
