Guadalupe "Chico" Barrera

Guadalupe (Chico) Barrera went home to be with his heavenly father on April 16, 2020, at 10:30 p.m. surrounded by his family. Chico was born on October 11, 1950, to Guadalupe Barrera and Mary Jane Johnston in Brownsville, Texas. On December 21, 1968, Chico married his wife, Estela. They were married for 51 years and had 3 children.

Chico and his wife, Estela, came to Frisco, Texas, in June 1979. Chico worked at GNB Battery for nine years before joining the Frisco Fire Department in 1988 as the first paid fire fighter. While working at GNB, Chico served as a volunteer fire fighter for the city of Frisco.

During his career with the Frisco Fire Department, he taught at the Annual Municipal Fire School at Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service for twelve years as a volunteer. He was also involved with the Knights of Columbus at Holy Cross Catholic Church in The Colony, Texas.

Chico was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Barrera, his baby sister, Gloria Ana and his maternal grandmother, Maria Weaver.

Chico is survived by his wife Estela, his son, Rudy and his wife Christina from McAllen, Texas, daughter Lisa Lemieux and fiancé Donald Rae from New Bedford, Massachusettes, and daughter Gina and husband Carlos Rodriguez from Frisco, Texas. Chico is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and was expecting his first great-great grandchild. Chico is also survived by his four brothers, Leonel (Frito) and wife Irma, The Colony, Texas, George and girlfriend Janie, Frisco, Texas, Ruben and wife Lupita, Dallas, Texas, Jaime and wife Crysta, Garland, Texas, and two sisters, Gloria Ana and Jessie, Dallas, Texas, Belinda Tucker and husband Karsten, Fredericksburg, Texas, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Chico lived a full life and touched the hearts of many.

A private funeral service will be held at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Dr., Frisco, Texas, on Monday, April 20, 2020, at 2:00 p.m.  This service will be live-streamed through Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Frisco Facebook page.  The family will have a Memorial Service at a later date for all those who wish to pay their respects in person.
