IN LOVING MEMORY

Grady Warner "Chunky" Hensley

Jun 05 1925 - Mar 10 2018

Grady Warner (Chunky) Hensley passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 10, 2018, at the age of 92.

Chunky was born to Otto and Jewel Hensley on June 5, 1925, in El Dorado, AR. At the age of 20, he started his career as a “doodlebugger” with National Geophysical. His life in the oil fields led him to Crystal Springs, MS, where he met and eventually married his wife of 60 years, Josephine Farmer Hensley.

Over a 42-year career, Chunky set several drilling records for what was now Teledyne Exploration. Along the way, he and Jo had one son, James, and three daughters, who he always affectionately addressed as ‘Sugar’, Kathy, Janet, and Teresa.

Retiring in 1987, Chunky focused his passion on his greatest loves, his vegetable garden, the Houston Astros and most importantly, his seven grandchildren, on whom he never passed up an opportunity to brag. A man of dedication and integrity, he lived his retirement years making sure his family knew how much they meant to him. Later in his life, he was blessed to welcome seven great-grandchildren into the Hensley family. As his health declined, a visit from a loved one lifted his spirits to carry him through another day.

Chunky was preceded in death by his wife, Jo, his daughter, Kathy Goodridge, and his brothers, Nolan and Gordon Hensley.

He is survived by his son, James Hensley (wife Brenda) of Guthrie OK; daughter, Janet Smith (companion Mark O’Connor) of Houston, TX; and daughter, Teresa Collier of New Braunfels, TX; his seven grandchildren, James Bryant, April Neely (husband Jacob), Chris Goodridge (wife Hollie), Erin Goodridge, Jbo Hensley, Jacob Collier (wife Michelle), Hunter Collier; and seven great-grandchildren. We all miss him dearly.

Our family will be forever grateful for the love, care and attention his granddaughter, April, has graciously given him through his prolonged illness.

The family will hold a private celebration of life to honor his legacy on March 24, 2018, at the home of April and Jacob Neely, 19 Heritage Way, Allen TX 75002.

Floral arrangements may be sent to the home or any desired donations can be made to a local cancer or hospice organization.
