IN LOVING MEMORY

Gordon "Skip" Luther Filbey Jr.

Feb 09 1934 - Dec 09 2017

Gordon Luther Filbey Jr. (Skip) of McKinney, Texas passed away December 9, 2017.  Born February 9, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Gordon L. Filbey Sr. and Grace (Dutterer) Filbey.  Skip married the love of his life, Ann Dix Filbey, whom he called Charl, on April 14, 1957, in Baltimore, MD.  After 60 years of marriage, Charl was still his “sweetie.”

Skip was an extremely intelligent man and received his PhD in physics from Johns Hopkins University.  Skip was a research physicist for the U.S. Government at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, retiring after 39 years of service.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church, McKinney, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

Skip was an extraordinarily compassionate man and loved and adored by all who knew him.  He was quick to smile and dedicated his life to his family, friends, and church.  He loved music, taking up piano lessons in his retirement, fishing, auto mechanics, good food, and good company.  Until the end of his life, Skip was an ardent learner—always reading, studying, and seeking knowledge.  On the eve of his death, he was still working out mathematical equations.  His lasting legacy is the love of learning he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his adored wife, Skip is survived by his three daughters: Jennifer Filbey and her husband, Lawrence, Katherine Skiles and her husband, Bradley, and Kimberly Bitting and her husband, Michael.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sisters, Joanne Neil and her husband, Theodore, and Eila Mae Hogans.

The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday evening, December 12, 2017, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.  A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 315 N. Church St., McKinney, Texas.  Interment will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church in Eldersburg, Maryland.
