Golda Lou (Denman) Griffin of McKinney, Texas passed away on October 13, 2018 at the age of 87. She was born on January 27, 1931 to Grady Kenneth and Fannie Lou (Hogan) Denman in Greenville, Texas. Her family moved to Denton, Texas in approximately 1937 where her family owned and operated Denman Hardware store. She was a very astute student and was a member of the National Honor Society. Golda attended North Texas State University and had a double major in history. She married James Lee Griffin on April 6, 1950 at the Chapel of the Woods at the TWU campus in Denton, Texas. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching in 1952 and later received her Master’s Degree in education at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. She and James lived in Idar Oberstein, Germany while he was in the Army post WWII. After the Army they moved out on the farm northwest of Plano, Texas, and she began teaching at Allen and later in Plano. She had one son, James Kenneth Griffin, on December 29, 1959. She became the school librarian at Meadows Elementary in Plano for several years. The family moved from Plano to a farm west of Howe, Texas in 1973 and later moved back to McKinney in 1979 where she remained the rest of her life. Golda had a deep love for quilting and was a member of the McKinney Quilters Guild and was also a member and officer of the DAR – Daughters of American Revolution for several years. She loved sewing, gardening, reading, playing games with her grandchildren, as well as playing 42 with her friends. Golda was a member of the First Christian Church in Plano, Texas.
Golda is survived by son, Kenneth Griffin and wife, Debby of Howe, Texas; grandchildren, Alyssa D. Hutson and husband, Jared of Gunter, Texas, Christopher L. Griffin and wife, Lyndsey of Melissa, Texas, Lane K. Griffin of Howe, Texas, John W. Griffin of Howe, Texas and Kendall S. Griffin of Howe, Texas; great-granddaughter, Jayden Hutson of Gunter, Texas; sister, Nell Smith and husband, Glen of Odessa, Texas; one nephew, Mark A. Smith and wife, Christie and their children of Colleyville, Texas; one niece, Karen Stallard and husband, Joe and their children of Dallas, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James L. Griffin.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
