IN LOVING MEMORY

Gloria Jean "Jeannie" Johnston

Jan 16 1942 - Sep 10 2021

Gloria Jean Johnston passed away on September 10, 2021 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 79. She was born on January 16, 1942 to Edward William, “E.W.” and Mertyce (Stallings) Francis in Houston, Texas. Jean married Clayton Gerald “Gerry” Johnston on August 28, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in South Houston, Texas. She graduated from South Houston High School in 1961 and received her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Houston - Clear Lake. She spent the summer of 1964 doing missionary work in New Orleans, which provided a future path for her and Gerry to adopt their children, Gerry, Jr. and Lori from Sellers Southern Baptist Adoption Agency.  Jean taught 4th grade in Pasadena ISD for 24 years. Her mission was to love and care for each and every one of her students equally.  Not only did she prepare them academically, but she also tended to their physical needs, often providing food and clothing for the ones in need.  She was lovingly known by her teacher friends as “Momma Jean”.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Allen, Texas. Her most cherished title, however, was “Mamaw” to her 3 grandsons, Clay, Canter, and Reagan.

Jean is survived by her husband, Gerry Johnston; daughter, Lori Blanscet and husband, Chad of McKinney, Texas; grandsons, Clay, Canter, and Reagan Blanscet; brother, Eddie Francis and wife, Janet of Channelview, Texas; brother-in-law, Ronnie Johnston and wife, Betty Jo of Shreveport, Louisiana; nieces and nephew; Lacy Hernandez, Tara Huckabay, and Travis Francis, and a host of other loving family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Billy Wayne Francis, and her son, Clayton Gerald Johnston, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 201 East McDermott Drive, Allen, Texas 75002.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.

An additional funeral service in the Houston area will also be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.  Interment will follow at Forest Park East Memorial Park.
