IN LOVING MEMORY

Gloria Annette (née Mason) Trout

Feb 01 1938 - Jun 11 2026

Gloria Annette (née Mason) Trout was born February 1, 1938, to Blanton and Harvella (Harvey) Mason in Snyder, Texas. Annette was the first of three daughters (with sisters Elaine and Darla), but she often said she was her “Daddy’s boy.” For the rest of her life, Annette treasured stories of her childhood adventures, from pumping wells to rabbit hunting with her daddy. While Annette was a bit of a tomboy and happy with a fishing pole in hand, she was also a beauty inside and out. She learned to love deeply and spent the rest of her days caring for others.

Annette met Jack Trout in 1954, and the two jokingly selected their wedding rings on their first date. They married on March 12, 1955, and shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with and cherished three children: Richard, Paula, and Susan. The family lived all over West Texas and eastern New Mexico. Eventually, Jack and Annette bought their dream home in Athens, Texas. They hosted many family gatherings on the lake, where Jack built Memaw the boat dock of her dreams. Their porch overlooking the lake became a favorite spot for morning coffee, afternoon sweet tea, and a perfect place to monitor the neighbors’ comings and goings. She often said this season of life—taking the boat out with Jack—was the happiest of her life.

Annette was a gifted florist. In 1970, Jack built Annette her first flower shop in a converted garage. She spent nearly 50 years building and running flower shops, spreading beauty wherever she went. Her ministry was creating casket pieces for grieving families. She was also able to arrange the flowers for several of her grandchildren’s weddings. In her final years, she continued creating, using her hands just as God intended. She proudly showed off her latest bouquet any time she had a visitor. One of her final acts of love was creating arrangements for all of her loved ones buried in Post, Texas.

Annette’s life was full of love. In her later years, she and her Aunt Nell would make pies for any occasion they deemed worthy at their church. Annette always loved singing in church and did so until her final week on earth.

Annette built lasting relationships wherever she was planted—from her teen years trying on shoes with Aunt Nell to watching “Soaps” with her mother and sister. She was a talented seamstress, having practiced her craft sewing for her beloved mother-in-law and later making dresses, costumes, and quilts for many throughout her life.

In the last few years, she continued to build meaningful friendships over puzzles and Rummikub with many neighbors in her assisted living home. Annette was always ready to join any activity—especially if dancing was involved—and she proudly considered herself a leader and a fierce advocate for her housemates, often campaigning for something other than “chicken, chicken, chicken!”

We would be remiss not to remember Annette as Aunt, Memaw, or MeeMaw. She welcomed 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews, and others whom she lovingly adopted as family. She traveled all over Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Alaska to support, celebrate, and spend time with those she loved. If there was a gathering of her family, she was sure to be there. Annette was part of five generations when her first granddaughter, Kristie, was born to Paula through Annette’s grandmother, Cordelia Stewart. Another fifth-generation connection occurred when her first great-grandson, Nathan, was born to Kristie through her mother, Nanny Harvey.

And with that, Annette danced her last dance and closed her eyes to walk into Jesus’ arms on June 11, 2026. Though we will miss her deeply here, we know Heaven has gained a beautiful spirit.
