IN LOVING MEMORY

Glenn Joseph Horstdaniel

May 21 1936 - Jun 20 2023

Glenn Joseph Horstdaniel passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 87. He was born on May 21, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri and adopted by Edmond and Bertha Fournie Horstdaniel of St. Louis, Missouri.

Glenn was raised in St. Louis and graduated from Chaminade Academy in 1954. During high school Glenn met his future wife, Carol Marie Kelly, at a school sock hop and they dated for several years while Glenn attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio on a Music scholarship. Upon graduation they were married on May 16, 1959 in St. Louis. Together they raised three children, Ellen, Chris, and Erin.

In 1970, they moved to New Jersey before settling in North Texas. Glenn was an accomplished pianist before he became a pharmaceutical Sales Representative, a career he dearly loved for 35 years. Glenn continued playing the piano throughout his entire life; it was a true passion for him. He played the piano at friends and family gatherings, and at many a piano bar in his day! He played by ear and loved taking requests from the audience who would sing along as he played.

To know Glenn is to know that he loved his beloved wife Carol very much. One of his favorite things to do was travel, and they took many trips across the US and Canada with the family, along with the two of them touring Europe, with Italy being his favorite destination. He also loved going on trips to enjoy the great outdoors including fishing and hunting in Alaska, Idaho and New Mexico. Glenn’s love of the outdoors was passed on to his children, with annual trips to Colorado enjoying the mountains and all it has to offer.

Glenn had many interests and was always active. Between gardening, cycling, bee keeping, playing soccer, golfing, and boating, Glenn truly enjoyed living life and sharing his enthusiasm with those he loved. All that have known Glenn can attest what a caring and giving heart he had, whether it be for his family and friends, through the Knights of Columbus, or for those less fortunate through his many philanthropic endeavors.

Glenn is survived by his daughter, Ellen Marie Sloan and husband, Blake of Plano, Texas; son, Chris Horstdaniel of Frisco, Texas; daughter, Erin Elizabeth Whitley and husband, Harlan of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Colin, Clayton, Meghan, Lauren, Ricky, Ian, and Hayden; and great-grandchildren, Natalia and Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and their son Andrew, as well as his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2023 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas.
