Gerry Jane Dunkin, age 82, of McKinney, Texas, passed away July 16, 2017. Gerry was born November 28, 1934, in Houston, Texas, to Max and Mary Mennike. She married Raymond Gerald Dunkin on June 4, 1955, at Park Place Baptist Church in Houston. She received her bachelor of education degree from Baylor University in 1955 and taught school in the Waco, Fort Worth, Lufkin, and Quitman school systems. Gerry’s real passion was Christian missions, which consumed her life. She served as President of Texas Woman’s Missionary Union, Baptist General Convention of Texas, 1988 – 2002, was President of Minister’s Wives Conference, Southern Baptist Convention 1983 and led women’s conferences and prayer retreats throughout Texas, Utah, Washington DC, Spain, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Shortly after Estonia received their independence, Gerry was invited to help begin Woman’s Estonian Missions. As a pastor’s wife for 39 years, she fostered local state and International Missions in the local church. Gerry was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Allen, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Dunkin of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Cindy Long and husband, Dale also of McKinney; sons, Carl Dunkin and wife, Lynn of Statesville, North Carolina and Chris Dunkin and wife, Amber of Waco, Texas; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; niece, Cheri McCurry of Asheville, North Carolina; and nephews, Walter Glasscock and David Glasscock, both of Columbus, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Maxine Glasscock and Doris Foster, and nephew, Gary Glasscock.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, July 21, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends prior to the service on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Texas.
