George Rayford Hill was born in 1942 to Effie Ann McCurdy and Jennings Bryant Hill and passed away March 16, 2020 in Frisco, Texas at the age of 77. He grew up in Farmersville, Texas as the youngest of 8 children. George was a hardworking man and loving husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, shooting skeet, trapping, and working in his shop and garden. He was a funny man who often had his family in stitches with his colorful sayings and “nursery rhymes”. In fact, if you ever met him, chances are you have heard his phrase; “Hi, I’m George Hill from Farmersville, never worked and never will!” Which if you knew how hard he worked during his life you knew that this was far from the truth.
George left home at 15 and worked for many years in Arizona and California before returning to Farmersville where he met and married the love of his life, Lucille Bratton in Greenville, Texas on November 22, 1963. They were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, Lita and Janet, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved learning from Daddy/Pawpaw about the outdoors and life and enjoyed all the adventures he would take them on. George was very proud of all of his babies! He often said he wouldn’t take a hundred million for ‘em.
Over the years, George worked at Intercontinental (15 years) and Texas Extrusion (2 years) before taking a position as a welder at North Texas Municipal Water District in Wylie, Texas. He retired from North Texas in 2005 after 26 years of service. But even in retirement George always had a project or two to keep him busy and often spent time helping others with their projects as well.
George was preceded in death by both of his parents and his siblings Riley (Betty) Hill, Velma Lee Hill, JB (Juanita) Hill, Marvin “Cotton” (Helen) Hill, Doris (Jim) McClinton, and Lawrence Hill. George is survived by wife Lucille Hill of Farmersville; daughters Lita Brooks and husband Kevin of Farmersville, Janet Ellis and husband Glen of Celeste, Texas; grandchildren Justin Brooks and wife Stephanie of Farmersville, Steven Parker and wife Shelly of Celeste, Meagan Brooks of Farmersville, Ashley Beyer and husband Tony of Princeton, Texas, Elizabeth Dowding of Michigan Center, Michigan, Shannon Pratt and husband Eric of Sherman, Texas, Teresa Crosby and husband Jaden of Princeton, and Master Sargent Robert Ellis and wife Tammy of Frisco, Texas; great-grandchildren Brandon, Corey, Mia, Katie, Emily’Lyn, Seth, Whitney, Ryan, Jonny, Tori, Chole, Stefany, Katelynn, Darci, and Meagan; great-great-grandson Cayden; brother Troy Hill and wife Cherie of Farmersville; sister Phyllis Clarkson of Oregon; sister-in-law Ruth Hill of Yakima, Washington; and adopted son Bradley Gebhard and wife Jan of Caddo Mills. George was also blessed with many bonus children and grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that will miss him dearly.
