George William “Bill” Hughes, Jr. of McKinney, Texas passed away on November 11, 2019 at the age of 73. He was born on February 1, 1946 to George William Hughes, Sr. and Mattie Lee (Thompson) Hughes in Dallas, Texas. Bill attended Bryan Adams High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1969 during the Vietnam Era. Bill married Lillian Taylor on February 29, 1992 in Princeton, Texas. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lillian Hughes of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Maryrose Hughes of Henderson, Texas and Leslie Hughes Wyman of Garland, Texas; step-daughter, Heather Cowan of Wylie, Texas; step-son, Shawn Halpin of Michigan; grandchildren, Riley Cowan, Megan Cowan, Karter Sartain and Kynlee Sartain; sister, Rosa Lee Jensen of Athens, Texas; niece, Holly Press also of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, John and Jeanne Broussard, Sr. of Pasadena, Texas; nephew and niece, John and Melinda Broussard, Jr. of Dear Park, Texas; great nieces Emily and Sarah Broussard also of Dear Park, Texas; and numerous other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George William Hughes, Sr. and Mattie Lee Thompson Hughes and his adopted sister, Betty Coker.
A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 411 Paula Road, McKinney, Texas 75069. A reception will follow the service in St. Rose Hall.
