George Charles Verkamp

George Charles Verkamp of University Place, Washington passed away December 2, 2016, at the age of 90.  He was born June 6, 1926, to Harry Verkamp and Rosella (Egbers) Verkamp in Cincinnati, Ohio.  George served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.  He married Betty J. Carroll on June 3, 1950, in Norwood, Ohio.  George worked in process operations for Proctor and Gamble. He was a 33rd degree mason, member of the order of Eastern Star

and Scottish Rite. 

 

George is survived by his children, Terry Verkamp (Patty) of Plano, Texas, Jill Hatton (Jack) of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Russell Verkamp (Debi) of Puyallup, Washington; grandchildren, Teara Prosser (Charles), Jamie Duerksen (Bradley), Christopher Verkamp (Sarah), Erin Deering (Kenny), Terry Daniel Verkamp; great-grandchildren, Desirae Bucy, Kendall Deering, Melissa Prosser, Emily Verkamp, Elizbeth Prosser, Christopher Verkamp, Jr., McKenna Duerksen, Emmalynn Duerksen, and Leah Verkamp and great-great granddaughter, Ava Bucy.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Verkamp, son, Kevin Verkamp, and parents, Harry and Rosella Verkamp.

 

A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon, December 16, 2016 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel in Allen, Texas.  Interment is to follow at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.  The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
