Genevieve "GENE" Estelle Mullendore

Genevieve “GENE” Estelle Mullendore, age 98 of Prosper, Texas passed away on December 6, 2016. Gene was born June 18, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois to Helen (Sandeck) and Stanley Albert Staskey. She married Reverend Franklin Kirk Mullendore, on September 9, 1941 in Sycamore, Illinois.

Gene is survived by her three sons, Stanley Kirk Mullendore and wife, Martha of Seagoville, Texas, John Paul Mullendore of Irving, Texas and Gerald Wayne Mullendore of Irving, Texas; three grandsons, Joseph Kirk and wife, Carla Shay Mullendore, of McKinney, Texas, Jeremy John Mullendore and Jordan Paul Mullendore of Coppell, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Landon Cash Mullendore of Coppell, Texas, Karlie Elise Mullendore, Josie Kate Mullendore and Tanner Kirk Mullendore all of McKinney, Texas; two nieces, Susie London and Vicky London of Illinois.

Gene is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Franklin Kirk Mullendore and her sister, Anabelle London.

Gene was a child when Chicago was dealing with Al Capone, a teen when the depression hit and went to Wrigley Field on Ladies Day where she saw players like Babe Ruth. She was a nurse when she met FK Mullendore at a retreat. When WWII started, she became an RN in Brooklyn, New York she celebrated VE Day near Times Square. After WWII, she was a young mother with her husband, a Chaplain at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. From there, she moved to Texas as a mother and minister’s wife. Gene returned to nursing when the boys went to college but found time to start the Republican Party in Collin County. Her years in Prosper were some of her happiest. It became her home with friends that lasted into retirement and after her husband’s death. She left Prosper late in life to be cared for by her sons. Through it all, Gene was a strong and sweet person with a tender heart. Today she wears a costume jewelry necklace given to her by one of her sons, which was always important to her. Gene saved it for 56 years because it was a gift from him in which he purchased out of his 35 cent allowance.

A funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church of Prosper, 400 S. Coleman St, Prosper, TX 75078. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Celina, 109 S. Oklahoma St., Celina, TX 75009.
