IN LOVING MEMORY

Gene William Fowler

Nov 27 1937 - Apr 26 2020

Gene William Fowler, age 82, of New Hope, Texas passed from this earthly life on April 26, 2020 with his loving daughter and son-in-law by his side.  He was born November 27, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Sims Robert Fowler and Mary Elizabeth Putnam Fowler.

Gene was a father, husband, brother, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family; to others he was a mayor, business owner, volunteer, photographer, designer, landlord, Russian interpreter, realtor, philanthropist and friend.  He enlisted in the Army after he graduated high school and learned to speak Russian as part of his training; little did he know how much he would use that in his life, as an interpreter for the Army and as an interpreter to help children in Russia with craniofacial deformities.   He was a very successful salesman and worked in many industries using that skill – computers, software, packaging and real estate.

He was very proud of his Choctaw heritage and enjoyed knowing he was a direct descendent of one of the Choctaw chiefs, Chief Thomas Leflore.  He shared the knowledge he gained from his genealogy study with his family and wanted them to know the importance of our family history.

If you mentioned Scrabble – his eyes would light up!  Gene loved to play board games, watch old movies, listen to soft music and visit with his family, especially in the house he and Pat built on a hill in New Hope, Texas. His strength, wisdom, laughter, and stories will be treasured and missed.

Gene is survived by his children, Denise Lynne Fowler Holden (Bobby) of Frisco, Texas; Todd Fowler Ashcraft of Asheville, North Carolina; Patricia Diana Sturges of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Eric James Sturges (Holly) of Burlington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Christopher (Carlee), Kyle (Rachael), Joshua and Kelsey Holden; James Lynch (Elizabeth); Sarah, Ashley and Anna Sturges; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ellis and Avery Blake Holden; brothers, Bob Fowler (Sharon) Frank Fowler (Ann) John Fowler (Carol) and sister, Linda Fowler Folger; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia McKissack Fowler; his parents; his sister, Sue Avants and his niece, Paula.

On behalf of the family, thank you for all the kind messages and posts!

A memorial for family and friends will be held at a date yet to be determined. Please check back for updates.
