IN LOVING MEMORY

Gary Al Sligar

Mar 05 1941 - May 15 2022

Gary Al Sligar passed away on May 15, 2022 at the age of 81. He was born on March 5, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas. Gary married Carolyn Holstien on June 23, 1961 in San Antonio, Texas. They went on to have three children, Michael, Ashley and Paige.

Gary studied economics at Texas A&M University where he was a proud member of the Corp of Cadets. After graduating, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force where he received an honorable discharge as Captain.

In 1967, Gary embarked on a lifelong career in the beverage industry starting with the American Can Co. He joined the Houston Coca-Cola Bottling Company in 1973 where he would become EVP/GM. Then in 1981 Gary joined the DFW Dr Pepper Bottling Company as President/GM, a position he held until 1985. His last stop was at Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling where he was promoted to President of the Gulf Coast Region in 1998 and served until his retirement in 2006.

Those who knew Gary knew the four things that he loved the most:

1. His family- He was our fearless leader, and nothing made him happier than to be with his family.

2. Coca-Cola/ Dr Pepper- If you know you know! If someone came over with a Pepsi product, he would politely ask you to leave. He loved his Coca-Cola business!

3. Texas A&M- Gig 'Em Aggies. He bled maroon!

4. Golf- If you couldn't find him at home, you know you could reach him on the golf course!

We loved him so much and I know he touched many lives along the way.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
