IN LOVING MEMORY

Gary T. Lafnear

May 24 1943 - Feb 08 2025

Gary Truman Lafnear of Prosper, Texas passed away February 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Gary was born on May 24, 1943, to Edward and Alta (Matthews) Lafnear in Detroit, Michigan.

Gary’s life was marked by his deep love for family, a passion for craftsmanship, and a commitment to his work. He met the love of his life, Susan, and they were married on June 30, 1973.  Together, they built a life full of shared memories, laughter, and love and raised a beautiful family that will forever cherish his legacy.

A dedicated professional, Gary worked at Mercedes-Benz, followed by a rewarding career with Volvo and other commercial truck divisions.  He worked all over the country and his family often accompanied him making many moves. His work ethic and loyalty to his employers were just as steadfast as the passion he poured into every project. Outside of his career, Gary had an innate talent for building things and he took immense pride in creating with his hands.  Gary’s proudest invention was building an attic lift in the garage, which he brought all to see.

After his retirement, Gary and Sue moved to Lake Texoma, where they enjoyed life by the lake, including fishing and boating with family and friends. Ultimately, Gary and Sue shared their final years together in Prosper, Texas.

Gary was a man of integrity, always willing to lend a hand to a friend, offer advice, or just share a meaningful conversation.  Gary had a big smile and a great sense of humor and he liked to share a good laugh with those who mattered most. His love for his family and his hands-on approach to life will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Lafnear of Prosper, Texas; son, Mark Callahan and wife, Michelle of Pottsboro, Texas; son, Vincent Callahan and wife, Veronica of Scarsdale, New York; daughter, Janet Crockett and husband, David of Hope Mills, North Carolina; daughter, Dianne Spruiell and husband, Sean of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandchildren, Joey Callahan, Orion and Olivia Rendon, Ameila Callahan, Dawson, Garrett and Stefanie Crockett, and Corey Gill; and loving neighbors, Mustafa and his wife Ilse Anwer and their beautiful children Luna and Ali, of Prosper, Texas.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.  The service will also be live streamed at the following link:  https://celebrationoflife.tv/.
