Gary Maurice White of McKinney, Texas passed away on June 27, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born on July 30, 1935 to Raymond V. and Maxine (Austin) White in Knox City, Texas. Gary grew up in Knox City where he graduated from Knox City High School in 1953. He then went on to McMurray University in Abilene graduating with a Bachelor of Accounting degree. After moving to Wichita Falls, Texas in 1960 he coached pee wee football and won many state championships. Gary married Merina Faye Carter on June 5, 1964 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He worked for over 30 years for Lomas Financial Corp starting as an accountant, working his way up to Chief Financial Officer. Gary was a member of the Financial Executive Institute, The Newcomen Society and the National Association of Accountants. He was an avid runner and a member of the Cooper Clinic for over 25 years during his time there he ran over 25,000 miles! Plus, he served on the board of the Exchange Athletic Club for several years. He had the honor of carrying the Olympic Torch through Dallas in 1984. Gary enjoyed collecting classic cars, participating in cars shows, and always winning first place for his classic Chevy cars and trucks. Gary loved to go to Copper Mountain Colorado in the fall and winter since 1973. He also loved spending time with his family. He was a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney where he faithfully served as an usher for over 10 years. He was also a charter member of Spring Valley Baptist Church/Park Central Baptist Church for 35 years.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Merina White of McKinney; children, Jonathan Keith White of Richardson, Texas, Danny R. White of Pflugerville, Texas and Caria White Shamburger of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Shelly A. White, Kaden White, Blaze White, Harrison Shamburger and Graeme Shamburger; sister-in-law, Phylis K. Stockton; Veronica White; and numerous other loving family and friends including his sweet dog, Copper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Maxine White.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana St., McKinney, Texas with Rev. Randy Morlan officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen.
