Gary Dennis Hanson passed away on September 1, 2016 at the age of 68 after a fierce battle with lung cancer. He was born September 22, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was happily married to his wife Sue for 46 years and together they had 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Gary served our country proudly in the U.S. Army. He had a distinguished 30 plus year Engineering career starting at DSC. He moved his family from Virginia to Texas during the DFW telecom boom, to help build the company from the ground up. He held numerous patents in the telecommunications field for DSC, and later retired from the same company under the name Alcatel/Lucent.
Gary loved to do as much with his children and grandchildren as possible. He volunteered to coach for his sons’ teams when they needed him; or was always in the stands cheering for them. He loved the beach, golfing and was an avid reader. He was known to pick up a book and not put it down until it was finished.
He was preceded in death by: his father Leroy, mother Bernice, his brothers John and Tom, and his sister Maryann.
He is survived by: his wife Sue, his 3 sons, Mike, Jason and Patrick, 3 daughters-in-law, Bridgett, Andrea, and Janie, his 5 grandchildren, Amanda, Aiden, Carter, Heather and Matthew and great grandchild Alexander.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers from now until the day we join you. We love and will miss you always Papa.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023.
Old Irish Blessing
May the Road Rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And, until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
