IN LOVING MEMORY

Garry Bowen

Aug 23 1948 - May 14 2022

Garry Michael Bowen, 73, finished his earthly pilgrimage on May 14, 2022 with his family by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on August 23, 1948 in Durant, Oklahoma. Garry had a magnetic personality and anyone who met him wanted to know him better and certainly felt better off for knowing him. From an early age he had to take on greater responsibility. While Garry was serving in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War, his father died and he had to return home to be with his mother and assist with duties around the farm.  During Garry’s life he served as a machinist for Texas Instruments, worked at the US Postal Service, earned multiple insurance licenses, owned his own insurance practice and other various businesses, and served in several ministry positions as a Bible teacher, deacon and associate pastor. Garry had the passion of a serial entrepreneur but most often found himself turning the business he started over to a close friend or another person who greatly benefited from his creativity and business acumen. He enjoyed cars, boats, fishing, studying his Bible, watching “real westerns” like Gunsmoke, and traveling to Branson with family. But his greatest love was family which meant spending time with his girls, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Garry is survived by his wife, Roselyn Massey Bowen of Melissa, Texas; daughters, Kimberly Sweeney and husband, Steve of Anna and Kelly Thompson and husband, Billy of Dallas; daughter, Tawnya Northen and husband, Rich of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Kinsley and husband, Steven, Chase and wife, Ale, Katelyn and husband, Josh, Kassidy and husband, John, Sydney and husband, Aaron, Zoe, Logan, Crystal, Clay and Catie; great-grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, Lainey, Asher, Xander, Eli, Elaina, and Alivia; and sister, Lynn Dills and husband Mike of Durant, Oklahoma.

Garry was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael, brother, Keith, father, R.L., and mother, Tommie Jo.

He will receive military honors while being laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
