Garnet Louise Porter, age 90, passed away in Allen, Texas on Friday June 23, 2023. Born March 12, 1933 in the Denton community of Carter County Kentucky, Garnet was the daughter of John Wesley Blizzard and Ellen Abrams Blizzard. Garnet was the oldest of two children (Dollie). All preceded Garnet in death.
Garnet married Franklin Brent Porter from Ashland, Kentucky in November of 1954. They settled in Ashland as they started their family. She was a homemaker, seamstress and stay-at-home-mom. Garnet’s love for sewing included making several beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren over the years. She moved to McKinney, Texas in 2017 to be near her daughter. Garnet loved NASCAR racing, watching and cheering on her favorite driver Richard Petty at events in West Virginia in the 1960’s, as well as NASCAR events in Kentucky and Texas in the last 20 years. She had the opportunity to meet her favorite current driver, Kyle Busch at Toyota Headquarters in Texas in 2019, and watched weekly Truck, Xfinity, and cup races with her son-in-law Robin. She was a Christian and a member of the Beech Street Christian Church in Ashland.
Frank preceded Garnet in death December 2003. Son Howard Bostick, Jr. preceded Garnet in death January 28, 2023. Survivors include one son, Michael Brent (Betty) Porter of Austin, Texas and one daughter, Diana Lynn (James Robin) Gooch of McKinney, Texas. Also surviving is Howard’s wife; Jo Bostick of Ashland, Kentucky. Garnet is also survived by four grandchildren, Adam Howard Bostick, Erika Porter (Chris) Bily, Andrea Porter, Sarah Gooch (Thibaut) Folliet, and four great-grandchildren, Cameron Bostick, Michael Christopher Bily, Madison Harper Bily and Mackenzie Mae Bily.
Graveside services will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland, Kentucky. Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow in Allen, Texas and Miller Funeral Home in Ashland, Kentucky are in charge of arrangements.
