Gailon Edward Brehm of Plano, Texas passed away October 6, 2022 at the age of 78. He was born on December 5, 1943 to Edward Brehm and Wilma (Pigg) Brehm in Hinton, Oklahoma. Gailon was the 1962 salutatorian of Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas. He completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering in 1966 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and earned his PhD in 1970 from Stanford University in California. Gailon worked at Fairchild Semiconductor, Texas Instruments and TriQuint focused on semiconductors and their application in aerospace, automotive and consumer electronics. He held six United States patents and was a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
He was a scientist and educator and shared his time with many organizations. He served on the Board of Texas Ornithological Society and a Board Member Volunteer for the Prairie & Timbers Audubon Society. He was a naturalist and birder, leading frequent bird walks across the state of Texas. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Paula including trips to Africa, Brazil and New Zealand. Gailon was proud to be the grandfather of seven grandchildren. Gailon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.
Gailon is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Paula Brehm of Plano, Texas; daughters, Kim Spalding and husband, Rob of San Francisco, Rebecca Hughes and husband, Rob of Allen, Texas, and Renee Sturgeon and husband, Brady of Allen, Texas; son, Brian Hutton of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Emma, Jenna, Ethan, Kate, Ava, Kyle, and Allison; sisters, Karen Baker of Amarillo, Texas and Rosemary Perkins and husband, John of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Randy Brehm and wife, Carol of Amarillo, Texas; and a host of other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Wilma Brehm.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Prairie & Timbers Audubon Society or the Connemara Meadow Nature Reserve in Gailon’s name.
